Dot Barrett is one of the main characters of the Mashle series. He is a first-year student at Easton Magic Academy.
Appearance[]
Dot has red hair that has a single tuft of hair hanging in the middle of his forehead (he used to have his entire hair held up during his first appearance in Episode 2 and second appearance in Episode 6, but he later changes his hairstyle upon realizing that Lemon Irvine was attracted to guys with bangs in Episode 7 and Chapter 18), red-brown eyes, a single magic line underneath his right side of his eye that looks like a zig zag and he normally wears a black headband with three white squares signs across it where it props up his hair and gives it a spikier appearance, but underneath his headband shows that he possesses a warding cross called the Ira Kreuz.
He wears the Easton Magic Academy school uniform.
Personality[]
Dot is a hot-blooded and obnoxious guy, stating that he's the main character, loathing "hot guys", and constantly trying to one-up someone. But deep down, he's a nice guy who will apologize if he's wrong about something while he is also shown to fall in love easily and he is sensitive to getting rejected.
It seems like he's has good house manners, gifting people a gift when he visits them in their homes.
Back when he was a child, Dot was very submissive and prone (likely to or liable to suffer from, do, or experience something, typically something regrettable or unwelcome) to getting bullied, causing his older sister Malta Barrett to help him fend off his tormentors.

Easton Enrollment Arc[]
Dot approaches Mash Burnedead and Lance Crown, claiming in a loud and audacious fashion that he's the protagonist of the story. He calls Mash some side character, but then the "side character" is approached by Lemon Irvine and Finn Ames. Lemon talks with Mash while blushing and in retaliation, Dot spits on Mash's face. He then goes on a tirade on how jealous he is of people who attract women and vows to join the Bureau of magic to rid "Hot Men" from the world. Mash and the group, however, pay no attention to Dot who claims they're bruising his ego. The teacher of that class then orders both Dot and Mash to pipe down and explains the objective of that class. That is to hunt a Forest Scorpion and bring back it's corpse for a chance to be awarded a Bronze or Silver Coin. The teacher then starts the class and first to go into the forest is Dot, who flips off Mash and proclaims he won't lose to him.
Eventually, Dot appears and Mash smacks him and then comments that he wasted calories he'll never get back because of it. The two then hear a young woman scream and go to check what's wrong. Apparently, a female student is in distress by a male student and so Dot casts Explomb on the male student. Trying to keep his cool in front of the young lady, Dot fails after she touches his hand and thanks him.

Magic and Abilities[]
Dot casting Explomb.
Explomb (エクスプロム, Ekusupuromu; Lit. Explom): Dot's personal magic. It creates exploding fireballs. The magic is highly destructive in nature and its explosiveness can be used in various ways.
- Machinegun Explomb (マシンガン・エクスプロム, Mashingan Ekusupuromu): Dot creates multiple exploding fireballs and launches them at his target.
- Explomb Bomb (エクスプロム・ボム, Ekusupuromu Bomu): Dot creates a magic circle that explodes after a set time.
Transeez: A magic spell that transforms a designated target into something different. Dot transformed a pot into a pot-mouse hybrid that attacks good-looking guys during lesson. He dubbed it "Iron Mouse".
Immense Magic Power: Initially, like all single-liners, Dot only possesses an average amount of magic power. However, he was born with a rare warding cross, the Ira Kreuz (イラクロス, Irakurosu) - (Note: Kreuz is German for "cross".). When his emotions spike, his true magic power unleashes, making him a battle demon. When the power of the Ira Kreuz is activated, Dot's hidden mark on his forehead begins to glow. During his battle with Epidem, Dot gained a second line which immensely increased his magic power. With the Ira Kreuz acting as a third line, Dot was able to perform a Summon as well as a Thirds that possessed enough power to overwhelm even Epidem's Thirds.
Immense Endurance: Dot's most notable physical trait is his incredible tolerance to pain and injury as shown when he continued to fight Lévis Rosequartz and Galuf Gargaron, despite his visible exhaustion and pain.
Enhanced Strength: Dot possesses a great amount of strength, enough to smash his friend Lance Crown through a solid wall.
Self-Healing: With his emotions at his peak, Dot is capable of healing himself through the power of the Ira Kreuz.

- Explomb Thirds (エクスプロム・サーズ, Ekusupuromu Sāzu): The Thirds of Dot's Explomb. Dot fires off two charged shots at a target. It is currently unknown on what appearance the entity Dot conjures takes or if he conjures an entity like other users of Thirds at all.

Dot has a good and caring relationship with his older sister.
Mash Burnedead[]
Although they had a rough start, Mash and Dot became friends after he beat Silva Iron in his place.
When Dot finds out Mash cannot use magic, he realized that everything he does were from his muscles and he clearly understands that they were not normal due to the feats and ridiculous stunts that he pulled.
Lance Crown[]
Dot has an intense rivalry with Lance.
Lemon Irvine[]
Dot fell in love with Lemon at first sight in Episode 6 and Chapter 15, but he has usually shown to be envious whenever she expresses her affection towards Mash Burnedead.
In Episode 7 and Chapter 18, when Dot predicted that Lemon was attracted to guys with bangs, he changes his hairstyle in hopes that she will notice him.

Trivia[]
- In the official English translation, Dot’s name was originally written as ‘Daut’. However, it was later changed when series creator Hajime Komoto clarified that it was spelt ‘Dot’. This mistake was likely due to the katakana that Komoto used not having a direct translation into English.
- This character was originally supposed to be the main character of another manga Komoto was making. However, because his editors thought that he would be unlikable, they decided to implement him into this series instead.
